Denver Nuggets-Nikola Jokic vs San Antonio Spurs-Victor Wembanyama
Today on April 4, 2026 these heavy hitters gave a playoff style Western Conference playoff game.
Both guns drawn giving us a first-hand look at what we have to look forward to at the end of the regular season. This game went down to the wire and then some with the Denver Nuggets pulling out the win in an overtime battle 136 to San Antonio Spurs 134; saloon western style.
This game didn't pull any punches almost literally; this game was packed with total physicality. While I think both sides will agree the referees may have also been an additional player in the game, this game did not disappoint, nevertheless. These two titan juggernauts came to play with Jokic 40 points to Wembanyama 34 points carrying their teams down the dusty road of the old west until the last man was left standing.
This game has me pondering while Wembanyama is considered to be invincible and a well-deserved MVP candidate, A true phenomenon in his own right. Do the Nuggets have a secret ingredient to the hot sauce; defensive player (Aaron Gordon)? He put on a heavy defensive display guarding Wembanyama to give the Nuggets an edge and an opportunity to pull out the win.
Wembanyama length and mobility causes a lot of issues to teams but defending him with spacing is not an option you have to body him limit his movement. Make him dribble and cut off his stride.
These teams have one more scheduled game on Sunday April 12, 2026, which will be the last game of the season. As a college coach said before, "everyone get your popcorn". This will be a good western showdown at the O.K Corral that will be worth watching.
