ITS HARD TO COACH A TEAM NOWADAYS AND REMAIN ON TOP
This conversation tends to be controversial for some reason. The transfer portal has been a thorn in the side of many parties. For example, this season the Alabama basketball team was exciting and electric. The collaboration of all the players gave you fast-paced action, hustle and the extravaganza of the three-point shots. (Defense could be tightened up though, just saying)
At the helm of this team was the sophomore player Labaron Philon Jr., this guy checks all of the boxes for a coach. He has high intensity, his dribble penetration, being able to discern a zone defense or double team, getting other teammates involved with his intuitive passing and creating space. You can tell he studies the game and by his personality he just loves and enjoys the basketball court. Philon has decided to opt for the NBA draft and will be a great addition to any game. (keep an eye out for him)
Back to the topic of the transfer portal: Alabama basketball team have lost to the portal, players: Jalil Bethea, guard, Taylor Bol Bowen, forward, Aiden Sherrell, Center. While it's an individual decision and no person should feel trapped or held hostage to any team, how can a coach adapt to the revolving door?
This season Alabama struggled with height against some other formidable teams and well Bol Bowen and Aiden Sherell were able to be productive in those areas. If you got your thinking caps on Alabama lost to the season champs Michigan. (that says a lot). Now Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats is back to the drawing board. Creating a team from scratch, building relationships and bonds with new players trying to get them on board with his designed system.
This transfer portal is a trap; how do you remain on top?? As a coach how do you keep your job!!! In some cases, you don't, look at the state of college football coaches now a days it is becoming a certified carousal. A game of pin the tail on the football coach. One minute you are coaching a team, and you endure some losses due to the portal and next thing you are fired, at the end of the game you are not even allowed on the school bus.
