Russell Westbrook Unrestricted Free Agent -Where will he go

Russell Westbrook, will he find a team in the mix of all of the trades and free agency markets

NBA player Russell Westbrook is an unrestricted free agent as of now. Russell last team was the Sacramento Kings in which he signed as a one-year contract, which has run out. Russell didn't play that much in the regular season due to being on the bench for a toe injury that saw him miss 11 games.

Russell in his prime was an All-Star MVP caliber player, playing with fast pace and was a scoring machine. The 39-year-old which is understandable is not as sprite as he used to be but when healthy he still is a great addition to a team.

Russell Westbrook Stats for the season at Sacramento before injury:

Statistic2025–26 Season Average
Points15.2
Assists6.7
Rebounds5.4
Steals1.3
Minutes29.0

These statistics are pretty strong and concrete and can assist a team in its team building. There are a few names that have thrown their name in the hat. These are the teams who may have interest Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets.
Miami Heat would be a good fit for Russell, but this option only happens if Lebron James chooses not to join the team. I think Miami would be utilizing Westbrook as a backup option. From multiple sources its reported Westbrook is not looking to be reunited with Lebron James necessarily.

Minnesota Timberwolves which is a young team in the NBA they are in need of a bench contributor with veteran experience, knowledge and skill set. Russell could definitely provide an extra layer of assistance on the court for them and could possibly settle this young team down a little.

Back to Denver Nuggets, while Russell Westbrook in the season 2024-2025 played for the team as a backup and bench motivator. I don't see a reunion of the pairing in the future. Denver is still in the process of trying to get their squad healthy and need more youth down the stretch. Also, they have made a decision to resign Tyus Jones as the guard backup and will probably not need Wesbrook as an addition.
