Tea Time at Wimbledon Tennis Tournament

 

Today matchups was an interesting start at Wimbledon and let's get into the tea. 

The Wimbledon Tennis tournament just got started yesterday and while it had that Royal feel as always, the grass court was a little ruthless with some of your favorite players moving on and some went right back to the airport headed home. 

Jannick Sinner, the number one player, played yesterday. Everyone was glued to the action getting a feel of Jannick Sinner. Jannick has been dealing with some ailments lately that has interrupted some of his matches in major tournaments. Mostly the issues that have risen of late for Jannick has been heat exhaustion, cramping and dehydration. While some of the tournaments have been in very hot and humid locations, a lot of it is his conditioning.  Lucky for Jannick the weather was great on yesterday and he managed to win, but it wasn't easy for him that's for sure. Jannick opponent ranked #50 Miomir Kecmanovic was up 2 sets to one on the world number one player but just like that he rallied back pulling off the win the final score was 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-3. Let's just hope he is warming up. 

Naomi Osaka, came out yesterday and won her match. Naomi is finally starting to hit her stride as of late; she is pacing herself to be a dark horse in some of these major tournaments. She is gradually pulling her way up to being in the top 10 ranking in the realm of women tennis. I admire her strategy; she is moving quietly no fuss no noise just making it through like building blocks. Now the girl, is causing eyes to stare on her fashion, she has been using the courts as her personal runway, and I aint mad about it. I too am a lover of fashion. Back to tennis: Naomi beat out Elsa Jacquemot convincingly in straight sets 6-1, 7-5

Cocoa Gauff  An American favorite. She won her match yesterday before she hit the court, beating her opponent Tamara Korpatsch in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. This proves encouraging to Gauff as sometimes she seems to struggle on grass surfaces. 

Today Matches

Ben Shelton  the brash young man out of ATL Georgia, came out today on the grass and got schooled by his opponent. Unfortunately, I will be a little hard on Ben today, he is one of the best grass court players around and the expectations were high for him in Wimbledon, and he lost in his first match. This has to be a set back and a reset for him and his camp. Now watching this game, I have to admit it was a great match with heavy hitting, serving and great rallies but this has to be disappointing. Shelton ranked number 4 loss 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, (8), 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) to qualifier Otto Virtanen. Otto has to feel confident going into the next round with this win under his belt.  

Alexander Zverev One of my favorites came out today and won his match, he is just coming off his first majors win at the French Open. I love his story I have followed him for years and just to see him having a boost of confidence in his matches and to be more aggressive has been amazing to watch. In this match he won against opponent Alexander Blockx 6-4, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (5), 7-6(0)

Now on to the Queen herself:

Serena Williams  👑👑Yep you read right. Serena Williams the most anticipated match of the Wimbledon tournament saw Serena Williams the powerhouse of women tennis come out of retirement in which she hasn't played in at least 4 years. The queen was given royal treatment I must say; they did a whole countdown live on when she would take her place on Center Court. Once she reached the court, she played a 3-setter match against Maya Joint which is 24 years her junior. Unfortunately, she loss 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 3-6. The takeaway from this match is that Serena still has a hard-hitting serve and she still will give anyone grief on the baseline and I must say I was impressed. Serena movement on the other hand seemed limited at the most getting to the net when needed and running at shots with angles. This match was great nostalgia for many and the buildup was amazing. Moving forward I am not really for sure what the expectations are from her camp or from viewers and fans alike but while she packed up the racquet in singles you will still see her play again in doubles with her sister Venus Williams.
