THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER, THE CHOICE HAS BEEN MADE
Not on my Bingo Card at all, but hey this is interesting.
Lebron had America waiting in his usual fashion bringing an element of surprise to his choice of his next chapter team. Lebron laminated his decision today with the Philadelphia 76ers. Lebron is leaving the LA Lakers and is taking his talents along with his 25.9 points per game 79 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game with him. In his eight-year tenure he was able to spearhead the 2020 NBA Championship and won the 2023 NBA Cup taking home the MVP title of the game.
In the midst there were many rumors, many speculations and plenty of advocates for different teams. My understanding was that the teams were Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers. While there were tidbits of Philadelphia being in the running for his decision it wasn't as loud as the other teams.
Lebron has signed a 2-year contract for $8 million. (wow) This contract deal is a significant pay cut for the 41-year-old franchise player, as it is equivalent to a veteran's minimum exception contract that includes a 2-year player option essentially opening the door for his possible retirement.
Philadelphia has made some changes to their roster in the off season bringing in Jaylen Brown, Anfernee Simons and now Lebron James. While this might not be a bad choice for Lebron to me this only works if Joel Embiid stays healthy. If for some reason Embiid is not healthy then I see Lebron being used heavily without limited minutes.
Everyone will be watching this dynamic and see how it all unfolds. 🌹
