MAJOR ALERT: US OPEN UPSET

Jessica Pegula won her match against fellow American Emma Navarro on yesterday. This match was full of nerves and anxiety. The two-hour set was full of base line strikes, double faults and heavy pressure. Navarro started off strong hitting hard keeping Pegula back on the baseline creating unenforced errors on Pegula part. Pegula seemed to be struggling with her serve logging five double faults in the opening set. Navarro was able to secure two break points of serve to taking the lead to close out the set.

In the second set Pegula seemed to settle in and limited her unenforced errors and broke Navarro twice using her signature flat ground strokes. In the third set Navarro came out the gate with swinging with a 2-1 lead, but Pegula couldn't be denied she won 4 games in a row and closed out the match. Pegula won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3

Ben Shelton pulled off a major upset beating Carlos Alcaraz last night/this morning. Before I delve into this match. I want to say that US Open has done a disservice to the players and its fans. The late matches and the late end times. As a fan we want to stay engaged but it's very hard when you are too busy fighting off sleep. (This is ridiculous) this match ended at 3:33am Eastern Time, which clearly broke the record for the latest finish in US Open History. Hello US Open this is a record that you should not be proud of, by the way. (Ugh) (Did I say ridiculous) (warning I want to cuss)

But anywho..... Ben Shelton relied heavily on his serve, serving at one point 146 mph (Gheesh) Shelton played with confidence and aggressiveness he also limited unforced errors. Shelton pushed Alcaraz to his limit winning 9 consecutive games across the second and third set dictating the game of play. Alcaraz loss will cause many questions, on if he came back too soon after his wrist surgery. The US Open was Alcaraz first tournament after a four and a half hiatus. The rust seemed to show with his forehand shots, unenforced errors. Alcaraz seemed tired and exhausted to include vomiting on the sideline before the 5th set. Shelton took advantage and served his prey and took the victory.
Shelton won 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6.....
