STILL NO CONTRACT EXTENSION
The New York Knicks won the NBA Championship and yet questions still remain.
One of the big questions is Karl Anthony Towns, will he remain with the New York Knicks. In my mind I would think that this is a no brainer, but I am just a fan, what I know.
You see the New York Knicks were up in the air with Karl Anthony Towns once Giannis Antetokounmpo became a free agent. There were rumors that Giannis would love to go to the New York Knicks to play ball. It kind of piqued the interest of New Yorks front office and organization. A cloud came over that particular vision once Karl Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks kept winning, and now they are the NBA Champs.
There was a lot of anxiety on Towns part with the front office in the beginning of the season due to not being offered a contract extension which will set to expire in the 2027-2028 season. Towns is currently in his second year of his four-year contract which is a Designated Veteran Extension with the Knicks earning a guaranteed $220.44 million in those 4 years.
Nothing is simple now a days: the plight for the New York Knicks is that if they re-sign Towns to the roster, it won't be cheap, they are looking at $272 million dollar pay out in another extension. In keeping Towns, it would cause the organization to have to deal with the NBA leagues luxury tax component. Will James Dolan, CEO of the Knicks be willing to pay that or if not, the only way in keeping Towns with that type of payout is to let go of your supporting cast.
Hopefully New York finds a solution in keeping this regime together. After all Karl Anthony Towns has been a key component to the team's current success. Towns wants to stay in New York, and I think that this team has formed a bond and brotherhood. I am hoping like the other fans that there will be a quick and formable solution that will make us see this same cast next year.
