Alabama Crimson Tide vs East Carolina Football
This is funny and feels quite quaint in saying the number #13 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide opened up its game with a lot to prove. It came into its first game trying to show off its potential and to put the last three years behind. I don't know if this game got the fans back to feeling confident and Playoff ready, along with the Nay sayers and the sports analyst; but I will list the highs and the lows and potential of this game.
Alabama Crimson Tide won this game 48-10 against the East Carolina Pirates.
Let's get into the popular conversation the quarterback position, Keelon Russell, this is where the anticipation and the questions was prominent, was the 5 star worth the hype or was he a bust. In this game it's still too soon to really evaluate completely but I will say he made 335 total yards he threw for 249 yards and rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown. I watched Russell bob and weave through defensive traffic making a first down and I can say he is a legit dual threat. But.... hold your horses there is a downside and I won't mince words he needs to be coached in giving up plays and falling to the turf if not he will get injured really quick in these SEC games, he needs to use his progressions and improve on his decision making. The quarterback is responsible in preventing the clock from running down and getting to the line without a penalty and having to take an unnecessary time out. Also, there was a mood of complacency in the score the offense did not score once in the 3rd quarter.
The rushing yards, I am excited about Alabama looked like that of a Coach Saban team. Coach Saban loved the ground game; he would stuff the run game down the opponent's throat; this game was almost reminiscent. In the last 3 years this was missing from Alabama game style which left them vulnerable in key games. Today Alabama on the ground rushed for 227 yards, in total there were 5 rushing touchdowns from this squad (I give them an A in this category)
The defense came to play they came out hype and kept the intensity going through out. This game was just the beginning, but I see their momentum moving throughout the season. The defense reminded me of the Alabama Crimson Tide from back in the day just shutting down downs and drives. The defense held East Carolina to just 162 yards and 5 first downs through the whole game. (Thats what I am talking about I give the Alabama defense a score of an A)
Alabama Crimson Tide moving forward needs to work on some of the same tendencies: offense being complacent, too many penalties and dropped balls.
East Carolina lost but they have some great takeaways from this game. The quarterback has a gift; he created a lot of down field passing plays. The defensive line was good they weren't any push overs, and they did quite well in the red zone.
Roll Tide is rolling...
